Our website fails when it frustrates people and unable to give them what they want. There could be things with your website that may jeopardize your long-term success. You may continue to design your website with specific mistakes and you don’t have any plan to address them. One of the most serious reasons for our online mediocrity is slow loading time. Average Internet users have been enjoying fast DSL and 4G LTE connections, but slow-loading websites can still be found.

Current connections already handle large-sized images easily, but inefficient use of server-side codes and scripts could cause reduced performance. Slow database could also delay fetching of information that’s needed by visitors. Problems could also occur when there are too many ads in our website. For many website owners, their primary goal is to generate revenue through online advertising. However, they could be so desperate that they integrate to many ads modules.

This could happen when they try too hard to make some money. If content is very interesting, website owners could already generate much revenue with a few, well positioned as modules. Some websites could be not properly maintained that there are broken links found here and there. This could happen when website owners manually change the URL of some webpages. Some downloadable files may no longer be available in the server, making it impossible for visitors to get what they want.

It is also important to avoid having complex navigation in our website. The navigation must be simple ans straightforward. If visitors see that our website is well organized, they will appreciate the overall user-friendliness. It is not necessary for them to guess whether they should go. Everything will look obvious and they will be able to go relevant pages. Once they consistently find desired information, they’ll come back for more. Learn from Wikipedia on how it’s really simple for visitors to get what they want. While we can make things simple for people, we shouldn’t  overload users with so much information.

If we want to cram so many things on a webpage, the design will be cluttered and won’t look so good. Content should be organized into different sections and paragraphs. When the webpage starts to get longer, we should consider to create another webpage. On the other hand, we should avoid giving too little information on a page that visitors can’t make a conclusion what they have learned by reading our webpages. Visitors want to get something meaningful and if they can’t find what they need, they will leave and quite likely will never go back. It is also important to avoid implementing manipulative tactics that fool visitors. As an example, we should avoid using subtle methods to force people give their email addresses. People don’t want to get manipulated to give out their personal information, such as name, phone number and home address. By avoiding mistakes, people would be encouraged to return and they recommend our website to their friends and relatives.
