Chain blocks- what are they and how can they assist your operations?

A chain block is a portable device that is designed to lift, lower and pull loads of variable weights. They are easily usable and require nominal maintenance. In spite of their small size, chain blocks are extraordinarily versatile and resilient pieces of equipment, finding applications in dozens of industries all over the world. A 10t chain block is the modest in size if you look at it, but it packs a punch above its size!

Cranes form the bedrock of lifting operations. However, they are not capable of completing their task without lifting hoists/chain blocks working hand in hand with them. A chain block comprises of a lifting chain, a hand chain to be pulled manually and a latching hook. At first, the chain block is attached to the load via the latching hook. Then, when the manual chain is pulled, the chain tightens its grasp on the wheel and creates a loop inside the mechanism to cause a tension which lifts the load from the ground.

Use of chain blocks in various operations

To illustrate the usefulness of chain blocks, let’s have a look at some important applications:

1.Construction

The construction sector is one of the largest employers of chain blocks. Despite the varying needs of the sector, lifting equipment remains at the core of the industry, and it is quite impossible to execute operations without them.

2.Dockyards, ports and shipping

The shipping industry uses huge containers for shipment, and chain blocks are often employed to move them. A chain block of 10t and more is generally required in these scenarios.

3. Forestry

Some trees are huge in nature, and require forest workers to use chain blocks in order to safely uproot them. Parts of trees that need to be relocated, are also transported using lifting hoists.

4. Mining

The mining industry involves the extraction of minerals and other materials from deep within the earth. It is almost impossible to get them out without the assistance of a hoisting equipment, and chain blocks are used extensively.

5.Warehousing

Warehouses are one of the most consistent users of chain blocks. They have thousands of items across a huge space. The operators of warehouses rely heavily on equipment to help them with their task, and chain blocks make the operation easier for them.

6.Factories

Chain blocks of all capacities like chain block of 2 ton, 3 ton, 5 ton, 10 ton, etc and geared trolley chain blocks are employed in factories across the world. Although the electric chain hoists are replacing them, the chain blocks are still credible in several parts of the world.

Conclusion:

In this blog, we have discussed the various applications of chain blocks, and if you are involved in any of them, it might be a good idea to invest in a chain block to improve the efficiency. The mid-capacity range like a chain block of 2 ton capacity can be employed widely across all the lifting-and-shifting activities, while the lower and the higher capacity chain blocks are more suitable for lower load relocation, and heavy construction and industrial purposes respectively.
